Derby County Poem Poem by Martin Ward

Derby County Poem

I am a Rams fan
and proud to say
that Derby County
is in my DNA.
I see football
in black and white:
the hope is eternal
and the future bright.
Success is relished
from silver cups,
for the rarest wines
are the best to sup.
My favourite vintage
is from forty-six,
with seventy-two and
seventy-five a potent mix.
Times can be tough:
I felt totally bereft
when Brian Clough
and Peter Taylor left.
I recall the days
of terraced streets,
and the Baseball Ground
where friends would meet
and cheer on greats,
like Charlie George
who beat the best
from home and abroad.
Roars of the crowd;
tangible to the touch,
stay with me forever
and mean so much.
We walk in the footsteps
of those long gone,
who watch in the ether
and urge the Rams on.
Now Pride Park
is our glorious home,
where we trust and hope
the best is yet to come!
