Detachment Is Wisdom Poem by Mohabeer Beeharry

Detachment Is Wisdom

If life is a gift
Then who is it for?
If the flower is for our pleasure,
Why is it only there for a day or two
And then heartlessly snatched away?

It wilts, it fades and then is seen no more.
To possess and lose is more painful than not to possess at all.
In this beautiful place we come all from the same bubbling fount,
Different forms, same energy.
And we all bring the same old and occult message:

Enjoy me,
Fill your heart with the pleasure of this brief encounter.
But do not attempt to possess me,
For I am only here for a day or two,
Sadly ephemeral!

Attachment is another word for pain,
Wisdom is in accepting this inevitable truth,
And achieve freedom from tears and fears, suffering
Andheartbreak.

Life belongs to the spirit
Who is unseen and eternal
And who is constantly on its transcendental journey to the Creator,
This frail frame has no need for the Creator.

It is not strong enough
To sustain this journey of the spirit,
And therefore needs constantly to be revamped.

This is the play of him who made it all,
A play with himself, by himself and for himself!
He makes,
He arranges and re- arranges
Great Master of transcendental energy.

Dear love, this frame is constantly being recycled
Placed into a perpetual transfiguration,
This frame is constantly being recycled
Today here, gone tomorrow.

Seek him only, who is permanent,
And unaffected by this play
And find all the treasure-troves of peace,
Love and happiness!
