Detective Lover Poem by Frank Adie

Detective Lover

You can't brand all men as cheats
Simply because one man cheated on you
Yes some men cheat, but all men are not cheats
I want a lover and not a spy
You call my gateman at odd hours
Just to inquire whether I am with another woman
You search my phone at the slightest opportunity
Looking for God knows what
You come to my house to confirm my absence
Each time I tell you that I am not at home
Whenever I answer a phone call,
You want to know who the caller was
Are you a companion or a spy?
You are beginning to get on my nerves

You nag me away with your suspicion
And complain that I am avoiding you
Because I am seeing someone else
You invest so much energy trying to catch me cheating
And don't pay attention to my needs
I need a companion and not a spy
You are beginning to get on my nerves
