It was sophisticated
to call a typewriter that,
after the Greek typtein to strike,
and not to call it a tap-tap-tapper,
after the French taper to tap.
It's too fancy to say
'envelop' (from the French) ,
so English goes to Middle English,
and tweaks 'wrappen' to 'wrap'.
So as I read this I visualized a 1920's flapper as she tapped out a sentence or two dressed in a boa and high heeled shoes, perhaps not French or Greek but well keyed and marvelously developed.
