Dhanteras

It's Dhanteras,
What to buy it today,
Some metallic stuff I must,
Something made from
Gold, silver, copper, brass or pewter,
If not, can something of steel not,
Can I not a clay piece, a durable small idol
Of Lakshmi and Ganesha,
A small statue of Kubera?

It is a day as for to welcome
Lord Dhanvantri, Goddess Lakshmi,
For lighting 13 diyas at the entrance
Of the house as to decorate it,
Orange, red and yellow favourable colours.

The Yama Deepam, light you a single sole diya
South-facing
Outside the house at eve
As for Yama, God of Death in submission
As for to shield family
From untimely harm and accidental death
And to ward off any misfortune to take place
Or happen.

A kick-off of Diwali festivities
It ushers with Choti Diwali, Diwali, Govardhan Puja and Bhai Duj,
A day of the worship of Lord Kubera,
Lord of Wealth and Yakshas, Treasurer of Devas
Along with Lakshmi, Goddess of Wealth
And Dhanvantri, Lord of Ayurveda.

On Dhanteras
Wanted I to bring
The small portable idols
Of Lakshmi, Ganesha,
Kuvera and Dhanvantri
As to begin my day
With the lamps lit and burning
In bidding welcome to them
And warding off of evil.
