When there is more Silence
Than Screams,
More long nights,
And less sweet dreams,
When words that are spoken
Ring every day,
Like a church bell,
Do we say goodbye?
Or do we find peace
In knowing,
It's the two of us,
Holding hands
Just to get high?

I'm trying hard
To break down the wall
You have built
Never imagining
Someone you could trust
Could love you so
Faithfully,
If you would ever
Lose the guilt.

This war,
I'm imagining,
May be too long gone
For us to fight,
But I swear,
Babe I swear,
I never found the sun,
Until I put down
My weapon,
Laid it on the ground
Close to you.

It scares me
To think about
How far I've fallen
Trying to get you back
To being you.
The walls you've built
Are thick with wanting,
I can't climb them
Like I should.
Something to be said
About sacrifice,
But I'd throw everything
On the table,
Just to love you
The way we once knew.
It chills me to think
Of how fast
Paradise escapes
The island that we once
Tread, looking for a grill.
And how long it takes
To float the boat back
To what we once knew.

This war,
I'm imagining,
May be too long gone
For us to fight,
But I swear,
Babe I swear,
I never found peace,
Until I put down
My weapon,
Laid it on the ground
Right next to you.

It was the one gun
Never Fired.
It was the only gun
Left retired.
It was the lonely gun
That brought me peace
Lying right next to you.
