Disruption..... Poem by RIC BASTASA

Disruption.....

at night when you
are alone,
sitting on the veranda
in your isolated town
visiting the ancestral
house of your
deceased mother,

in this silence you
hear voices,
as you keep your mouth
shut,
the voices come from your
heart,
soothing voices, then
singing ones,
as you close your eyes,
as you feel the calmness
and the coldness of the
night
without the rain
without the sounds of leaving
cars
when all the birds sleep
the dog lying on the doorstep,
doors with safe locks,
lights behind the kitchen

and then the white owls
flap their wings
preying on sparrows
flocking upon those branches
of mahogany trees.
