Do Not Drive Away Those Flamingos Poem by Soran M. H

Do Not Drive Away Those Flamingos

Do not drive away those flamingos,
they have come from distant lands,
and in their breasts
they carry the warmth of an undying love,
knowing nothing
of the language of hatred.
Do not drive away those flamingos,
for they fly in search of a quiet nest.
And when they chose this land,
it seemed that justice had a dwelling here,
and that peace
had two wings.
They came to adorn the face of the earth,
to give it a colour it had never known,
to weave from their differences
a more beautiful mosaic;
for no melody is ever complete
without the many voices of its song.
Those sorrowful flamingos
wait for lips to offer them a smile,
and for a warm embrace
to open its arms to them,
to hold them tenderly,
perhaps to make them forget
the pain they left behind.
They are a symbol of peace-
those who emerged from the smoke,
who came through the ruins of yesterday
carrying hearts
that had survived without hardening.
They loved this land
they had chosen as their refuge,
and when their wings came to rest upon it,
they left upon its soil
something of their colours.
So do not drive away those flamingos.
Let them come to rest. Let them dream.
Let them make of this soil
a homeland
wide enough for love.
