Do Not Forget Me: Cries Of The Past Poem by Elijah Akinwunmi

Do Not Forget Me: Cries Of The Past

Rating: 5.0

Do not forget me:
I, the slain casualty of Time,
The game of pandemic violence;
The hunters prowl, the game restless
But an undead fears no mortal.

Mortals breathe, I moreso;
I whoosh, I whisper, I woof,
Lone bursts of wilful death spurt;
Cast me not into the earth; I am
The grave of the grave-digger.

Do not forget me:
I am the bloodless being which dwells
In the bloodstream of life,
The pitiless leech which sucks
The essence of the soul.

Aloft I stand, forget me not,
Transient as life itself
And immortal as death;
Forget me not, I live
Where I am killed.
