Do not let me be me,
The mind is astray,
The heart wanders.
They might go through
The forbidden paths,
Where once it was green -
And wish to seek shelter.
Do not let me be me,
I am alone, and hate being so.
A little care could get me back,
An eye to eye can set miles straight,
And let me become
What you want me to be.
Do not let me be me,
A day of neglect can take me
Scores of years back of time,
And wish to never return at all,
I will seek comfort in my past dreams.
Do not let me be me,
Coz when you ignore me,
You ignore you.
You ignore what is your right.
Do not let me be me,
Coz what the soul desires,
Is not what it can get.
Do not let me be me,
Or else you will lose me one day.
Do not let me be me.

Nothing can soften human nature more than love and caring, with both one can be encouraged to turn a new leaf. People generally become what they are encouraged to be. A well articulated piece of poetry insightfully penned with conviction. A lovely poem indeed. Thanks for sharing. Please read my poem MANDELA - THE IMMORTAL ICON.
