Doctor (2) (A Busy Er Doctor) Poem by U Win Kyi

Doctor (2) (A Busy Er Doctor)

When I am on duty,
I am usually busy.
Emergency duty is very challenging,
especially when patient is given CPR for resuscitation.

One day when I almost finished my duty,
I felt hungry and happy.
Then a patient came in with abdominal pain
as he moanfully complained.
For a week, he passed no stool or flatus.
Then for examination, I wore the latex glove
to inser and probe my finger into his anus.
I felt the impacted stool as hard as stone.
As I removed it, the patient shouted with high-pitch tone.
The evacuated stool filled the whole bed-pan,
as the gut-wrenching odour of it floated in the air.

After finishing I looked at the clock,
then my heart almost went to stop.
I was sure to be late
for my very first date.
I arrived the restaurant not punctual.
My body stinked with stool smell.
With tissue paper she covered her nose
and sprayed perfume in heavy dose.

That was the last time we met.
For relieving the patient's pain, I never regret.
