Doing The Men Amen Dance Poem by Sarah Mkhonza

Doing The Men Amen Dance

Watching the dance as always
I want to join in and turn to
each turn for crosses are on
the march here, where heaven
makes us neighbors who sing
the "Men Amen Dance.

The demons say good bye as
the dance goes on. The spirit
can force a man down. It can
pounce on one possessed and
expose the devil. Shameless
and nameless are the demons
when they see the cross or hear
the holy name. Vigorous are they
when they hear pronounced the power
in the name.

I watch this 'Men-Amen'dance and know
I am a long way from being saved and so
is my brother for he laughs and his navel
bobs in and out. At the word Amen we leave
and go home sin free.

Did they prat for you? The question comes
as akways. We relive the motions of men
who do the dance until we foam in the
mouth. One more day of prayerday as
we begin the year. Happy is the year
that we turned and turned.
