Don'T Come So Close Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Don'T Come So Close

The whiskey began mixing with traces of tylenol,
left in my body.
I cried as if I'd lost everything,
everyone.
All I heard was music,
that would send images through my mind.
'Liar liar liar',
it grew hard to breathe.
I saw a car pull up to the drive,
I ran to the door and stood on the dark step.
I couldn't stop thinking those thoughts,
the painful unpleasent ones.
He walked up to the step,
and I fell apart.
It was nearly impossible not to cry,
not to feel.
I have to make this time better,
for his sake.
I drink to inspire,
to distract.
I couldn't bare to burst into tears this time.
He touched my pain,
and did what he could.
A soft gentle hand,
pressed to the scorch marks.
It burned, as it sent shivers up my spine.
No one has done it like this,
no ones gotten so close.
For a moment there,
I was vulnerable.
