Don't Tempt Me Please Poem by Varghese J Kuttikat

Don't Tempt Me Please

O Heavenly Father,
Give me the strength to defy Thy decree:
The decree to sacrifice my son, flesh of my flesh
On the mountain holy, the altar eerie
Don't tempt me with offers grandiose
Powerful enough to trap even the austere, staunch:
The splendor of Paradise, perennially free of blemish
May the spirit of the Son of Man who spurned Kingdoms glorious
Descend upon me with a rush mighty and penetrate me through and through
And set me totally free from the sin grievous: self-seeking unpardonable
Let me not be guilty of desecrating the altar, elevated status human
