Don't Break My Heart Poem by Nellie Isabelle Steward Cooper

Don't Break My Heart

Don't break my heart - don't say good buy? ? ?

Forever and always:

Try try, try

To buy, buy, buy

But one does sincerely ask:

Why, why, why

But you say.... good buy

Watch those feet fly, fly, fly

A whirl of activity outside a crowded urban storefront takes place
(On a cold and dreary snow swept day or perhaps it's on a hot and humid day)

I am not sure...my memory being somewhat uncertain in that regard..

This happening before a more than well publicized grand opening day event when money may be spent

This does not in any way say, show or otherwise betoken

A good buy is inside and soon to be forthcoming

Even though miss so-n-so (who comes from afar) says you should
definitely go there, they have elegant escalators to ride - side by side

Don't break my heart - don't say good buy! ! !

Generously displayed for all to read (in bright neon lites) as it happens tonite...the sale of the century - you don't want to miss- this...it's clean out of site

The word now is five - passed in hushed tone... (tis at once the magic word) spoken softly throughout an ever expanding gathering... as many others continue to arrive

Then comes the incessant waiting, waiting, waiting forever and just a liddle bit longer, the magnificent gathering growing stronger, stronger, stronger

Then the tinkling of keys, the slow opening of large glass doors, the glee of great gusto, the gathering now grown extremely large as we see the charge, charge, charge! ! !

As comes the mad-dash to save some cash - an endless stampede to get what you need...during the stampede..

And alas a final begging and plaintive plea:

Don't break my heart - don't say good buy...? ? ?
