Don't Fight Poem by Tony Cemaluk Egbuonu

Don't Fight

Don't fight, no gain.
Fighting is grossly misconstrued,
misunderstood,
misapplied.

The outcome is misjudged,
miserable.

Mind-set matters.
Fighting is never wrestling.
A yawning gap difference exists.

One wrestles to just win,
to pin down only.
One fights to tear down
and to finish,
to exterminate,
to delete, to survive.

And law abhors deletion.
Who likes to delete
or to be deleted?
Either option,
trouble awaits the winner, the survivor.
And the defeated, somehow.

For what?
For fighting?
Killed fighting?
Died fighting?
Manslaughter survivor?
Blatant murderer?

Fighting never happens
not
Not for obvious lack of strength,
but for the dilemma of either outcome.

Fight to finish, to face awaiting law
that didn't wait to separate the brewing fight.
So no gain. No victory. If any, just pyrrhic.
When inevitable, fight to finish, though.
Never to be finished.
Defensive offense, law may give
second chance to live on.
