Down A Lonely Road Tonight Poem by norman hale

Down A Lonely Road Tonight

Down a lonely road tonight
There walks a lonely man
Where once he and his woman
Walked holding hand-in-hand

In his right pocket, there's a ring
He was going to place upon her finger
Now all he has left are memories
That will forever haunt and linger

In his left pocket, there's a locket
It was a match to the ring
He wanted her to wear it
But plans are just a funny thing

For just down the road, a ways
Was where she had her fatal crash
She hit a semi- truck head-on
Her life went within a flash

Some say she fell asleep
Some say it was the truckers fault
Life can be such a precious thing
But can never be sold or bought

Now he walks a lone each night
With his memories of their love
Crying his self to sleep each night
As she now watches him from above

So if you have someone, my friend
Then let them know your love is true
Don't let your love die off in vain
Prove to them, they are loved by you

No matter where they live
No matter where you are
Take your love right to them
For your love might be their shining star
