Dream Interpretation Poem by Jan Freundschuh

Dream Interpretation

In my dream, my father saw me off
On my oceanic voyage to the other side
Of the world.

It was a giant vessel, but it was unmanned,
And it would just 'get me there',
Not to worry.

But I would be months and months and months
At sea, I said.
Would not the aloneness drive me mad?
(Perhaps bad people would board the vessel)
I even saw a man on board [for a split second].
Probably an illegal alien,
Because he ducked away -keeping a low profile.

Nothing to worry about, my father said.
He won't reappear.
And in this dream this sounded reasonable.
While supposedly my worries about there being
No one to steer -
Were unreasonable it seemed:

Just as an Amaryllis purchased for the Christmas bloom
With its bud already visibly formed,
Will lengthen, will grow, will open,
Will dazzle and amaze,

No worries.

And I somewhat believed him.
Nothing untoward would happen,
But still, would I go crazy from no human company?
Like one lone attendant left on moon colony
To carry on essential functions?

The stuff of movies!
We don't really know if humans can take
Such aloneness, do we?

Well, he said, there have always been pioneers.
It's in the human DNA.

But he didn't really say this.
That's me putting words in his mouth,
After I awoke and
Am worriedly interpreting the
Feelings in this dream:

....One voyage of incredible length.
....One almost unseen illegal alien
Of no consequence, as he will not interact, but
Stay in my subconscious.
....One automatic unfolding,
-Flowering unstoppable.
....One moon colony abandonment worry.
....One very large, karmic, ship of state, that will
Sail into my future with no help from me,
Nor anyone.
....One assurance from my dead
Father, that it is the right thing to do,
And, Bon Voyage!

Nothing for me to do
Just lounge on deck.

Was he reporting back to me
About the 'experience' of death?
