Dreams Do Come True Poem by Casey Gochnour

Dreams Do Come True

All throughout childhood, love was a dream,
It was sought but feared, or so it would seem.
Crushes came and went, and then we grew,
Feelings and mistakes came on through.

Make-believe love came to be, you could see,
Our locks were tossed; untreasured key,
Forsaken skin tossed to and fro,
To think you and I didn’t even know…

The fire was extinguished, the scorching flame,
The burns always visible with only ourselves to blame.
They’re embedded in our hearts, so soft within,
No regrets, it built who we now have been.

But you see, we have grown past the times back then,
And because of you I’m now the envy of men.
Those memories seem so long gone,
Yet, still they are dwelled on.

It was awful back in the day, when I would only dream.
I would hope of a love to come, I would scream…
Seeming unreachable, and I gave it another chance,
You made me believe once more in romance.

My dreams seemed unattainable, truly they were,
No woman seemed to be the one I would prefer.
God, how it tears me apart to even think,
But now here we are, completely in sync.

Look, I’ve had nightmares, dreams I’d hope to lose,
And sometimes back then you didn’t have the option to choose.
They would happen without your consent,
It was nothing but torment.

But now, here you are,
My woman, my shining star.
Back then I just wish I knew,
That dreams really do come true.
