Driven Poem by Lee McGregor

Driven

I'm driven by the aching in my body,
The shortness of the time left here on Earth,
If I had another way
Griping fears to allay
Then these words
Would not appear on this page.

I'm driven by the sadness in my heart,
That empty unfulfilled and wounded spot,
If a love could just shine through
Soothe and heal the scar tissue,
Then perhaps I'd have no want for wordy art.

Driven by the distance of it all,
The space between the other and the world,
This woeful loss of hope
That I'll build a bridge across
To connect and share my humanness with you.

I'm driven by the pain behind those eyes,
Your brave attempts
The blues to disguise,
If you'd only try and trust
Put your faith in more than lust,
Then perhaps my loneliness would melt away.

Oh for blissful inspiration
To be more of the equation,
Instead of the perpetual driving rain,
Of all the answers that I seek
What propels and drags me through
Is a hungry malcontented yearning need.

Relentless drive
The search to fill the void,
A taste for nourishment beyond the known,
To finally put to rest
What seems a lifetime of distress,
To really find a place I can call home.

I'm so driven to the core
By this heart that holds it all,
The hidden treasure nurtured deep inside,
Ever easy to dismiss
When locked in darkness I confess,
But my truth I'll carry to the very end....
