Dusk Poem by Bedanga Rag

Dusk

Rating: 5.0

At the end of daybreak
Floating on a mere piece of wood,
I began my journey..
The other bank far away,
And this one shifting slowly!
The sun, as if soaked in blood
Was redder than it could ever be!
And the wind no doubt
Was under a spell 'Evil-Casted'
The vapid moon had already begun to seduce the sky..
It seemed like silence overpowered the atmosphere!
But in my ears were ringing clearly..
The distant cries of evening birds..
The aroma of mixed sorrow, and pain disguised
Blew like winds of despair
Far away, the clouds behind the hills
Were engaged in a mourn..
For the death of a day wonderful!

And I was interrupted,
As a man, maybe in his 80's
Sat beside me..
Age is a difficult factor to formulate,
But one could with great ease
He's old...
Old enough to let go off the thread
Which bonded his life with his body..
Which seemed boneless
With patches of his skin
Dancing along with the rhythm of the evening breeze!
Dull was the shade of the sky,
And so were his eyes
With veins in red protruding out at the edges..
The countless wrinkles upon his skin
Narrated the tales
Authored by destiny on the blank pages
Of his life..
His head was like a portrait in 'Black & White'
With the 'whites' taking the lead!
His jaw teeth-less,
The remaining ones breathing their last!
The nails in his toe
Too was devoid of a shape to be called normal!
He was like the leaf less autumn tree,
Ugly... Lifeless...
Subjected to the mercy of everyone!

The daylight now faded completely,
As countless of stars glittered across the colourless sky..
And birds of the dark unleashed their melodies into the air!
That's when I saw him..
Smile..
Which soon turned into a laughter...
As if.. He welcomed the dusk of his life
With a comfort, impossible to exploit..
And that made my day
An eventful one!

Perception of dusk with starting of journey of life is very brilliantly drawn in this poem and interestingly this is penned. Daylight fades at dusk time but laughter of memory shines. An excellent poem is beautifully penned...10
