universal truths are well, they just are
but we never listen to the poets
we ignore the reaches of rational reason.
with hefty platitudes and helpings of hubris
most men toil in the dark trying to see the light
two million years and the light arrives.
light arriving from a star long dead and all we see
in that death is the light old and fading;
still we toil in the dark and too soon comes our Dies Irae.
when you die they promise us we will see the light
but doubt creeps and in our hubris we fall
fearing all that is there at the end more darkness
universal truths are just that and the tears
as we see the light die in others eyes
as others will see the light die in ours,
and if you listen very carefully you can hear Gods laughter.
