Dying Peace - Poem by philip mtange

I watched a dove die
And was mesmerized by the image
Stared at the rupture of peace
And innocence
And wondered.

It stared bleakly at me
That symbol of peace
As if crying out for mercy
But I was transfixed
By the enduring image of death
And offered nothing.

I moved
But only when death had engulfed it
Covered it in my hands and attempted to revive it
But it was late
And peace had left this world
Leaving only the chaos of yesterday
And the day before.
