Each Tattoo Is A Memory Poem by Tatianna Rei Moonshadow

Each Tattoo Is A Memory

I drank up the bottle
Until there was nothing left to fill the space but me
Then I filled it with words and images
And drowned in an ocean of ink and memories
Each memory says something
Each one has a story to share
The first rejoices that I have healed
Second says 'Its nice to see how little you've learned to care'
Third looks at me and smiles
And this newly empowered face smiles back
Fourth says 'Welcome to freedom, welcome to your life'
'I see you've finally left him, to who you are you have come back'
I sit among my memories
As I lay down to receive a new tattoo
This one to remind me that I am alive
To remind me that these lungs breathe for real and that this heart is really beating too
