Early Morning Moments Poem by Grant Howard Bunce

Early Morning Moments

Rating: 5.0

In the early morning moments, before sunlight pierces the leafy dome, or slowly lights up rooms, one by one in my quiet little home

Long before the sunrise heralds the glow of the fresh days dawn.

All the birds are still sleeping and nobody has opened their eyes or started to yawn.

Before magical beams of sunlight can pierce the heavy morning mist.
Blades of grass dressed with dewdrops straighten up and daisies and poppies start to wake and untwist.

There is a ringing silence that deafens even the most dullest of ear, just before the dawn chorus erupts with that jocular and jubilant avian cheer.

It's at this point I awaken and start to imagine my day ahead, I gaze out of my bedroom window and I rub my eyes and scratch my sleepy head.

The morning star is still visible and the moons crescent is in the west,

time for me to get up and greet the day, i look around and scratch my chest.

Standing in the fresh cool air looking at what God has told nature to do, I am thinking of a happy time when you were with me, we were young and our time was new

I drink my tea in the garden, my cat wraps herself around my legs, and a robin on my clothesline sings to me as he sits atop the wooden pegs.

The smell of sizzling bacon pervades through the kitchen and overpowers the coffees smell, and eggs start to bubble in the pan, as breakfast cooks I know all is well.

My mind wonders and drifts back and forth, it's not my fault, I engage in the conversation at the table and ask " can you please pass the salt "

The happiness we knew as children could know no limits, gates or bounds, it could soar and lift at will, and everything ordinary seemed so profound.

Like teenagers with wings standing on top of the tallest hill,
we could imagine the impossible, and enjoy the smallest pleasures and everything was a thrill.

Time and time again time stood still in moments of laughter, love and fun,

Innocent children playing together, free to explore life's mysteries and enjoy the hot summer sun

Now the sun is setting on my home and our sweet life we have made, life gave us many lemons so we made lots of lemonade.

I have all I ever wanted in my daughter my cat and my wife.
Thank you to my good friends and those special ones who shared with us this very precious life.
