Early Works - Trapped By Life Poem by David Harris

Early Works - Trapped By Life

I look out of my cage
at free blue skies
and as I do I ponder
asking myself why
am I caged in
by unspoken and unwritten laws
like and animal in a zoo
with murderous paws

Why am I trapped by invisible bars
when the government can live freely
on me and others like me
like scavengers on a dead prey
they fight amongst themselves
trying to squeeze the last dropp of blood.
Why do we let it happen?
Why? Why? Why?

Why do we let them lead us
like sheep to the slaughter?
Why must we take only the left overs
that only they see fit to give us.
Why? Why? Why?
