Prose must be effulgent,
poetry pellucid.
To prose we are indulgent
because we cannot juice it
with literary leaps of lines,
but poetry creates
a world of paper shrines
that have no sold-by dates,
because with all its metaphors,
and similes and rhymes
and meters it can open doors
that have no closing times.
