Elemental Quarrel Poem by Blake Nox Gama

Elemental Quarrel

Does the ember,
Fickle as it might be,
Burns any less hotly
Hampered by the coming storm?

Does the light feel any less joy
In being bright and right,
Does the light shrink in distress
Due the looming darkness?

Does the waves clash
Any less violently
Against the dry fixed rocks
Intimidated by their immutability?

Does the wind sound
Any less melancholic when
It howls in the spring?

Does sadness and despondency,
Bleak and bashful, feel any less
Desolate when they wander around,
Aimlessly
Haunting the night sky
Of our countryside?

Does reason dilutes emotion
When rhyme and reason are lacking?
Does the shimmering horizon
Dissolves the dark clouds above the sky?
Does a candle stave off the bitting blizzard?
Does oblivion sound alright
When the dark is nigh?

Does non answerable questions
Sound lonely? (or it's just me?)
Oh, let it be hail, quakes, eruptions
Let it be flood and tornado
Let it be beautiful like a supernova
Let it burn my eyes off
With Nature's beauty and rage
And when by thunder and lightning
My body succumb
I'll taste the answers and the bright shades
So ask me no more questions
You allude to promised lands,
Fraternity, El Dourado
But you just allude.

We're waltzing around the lake
From opposite sides—
Not even our toes touch the water
But I want to be drenched in it.
It's okay when we blame
Our humanity
But I keep making allusions
To ideals and stars far brighter,
Fairer, loftier than we are.

Am I to blame?
Are you to blame?
Mind me not,
My focus split, my mind
Got awfully distracted
Fighting the common beasts—
Hydras for the future,
Cerberus for society,
Gorgons for relationships,
And the nameless one hiding,
Threatening me, in silence,
In the shadow of my consciousness
Waiting for strike as soon as it smells
Blood.

It's okay, it's our human faults.
Not yours.
The elements are not to blame.
But the bitterness in my tongue
And the frailty in my flesh
Won't stain the horizon
Nor make the stars dim.
