Elusive, Fragile Joy Beset Poem by Gary Witt

Elusive, Fragile Joy Beset

Rating: 5.0

Whither happiness
Wither joy that must
Endure our hopes
So hope endures;
Escape our dreams
When dreams imprisoned lie;
Suffer our illusions
Trammeled and dying;
Survive our love
And love’s brutality;
Bear our needs
That unfilled weigh upon us;
Staunch our sorrow
As sorrow staunchly stands;
Brave our comfort
Cowardly consumed;
And abide our fears
For fear abides.

You have taken an array of life's important elements and presented them to the reader in the most ingenious and original way. The language skills on display sent me straight back for a second (and third!) read. A fluid and thought-provoking write. j x

Your crafted poem assures me that we are surrounded by fragile joy even when our illusions are trammeled and drying. Love can 'Bear our needs' - 'Staunch our sorrow' - Brave our comfort' even though our fears remain. As already has been noted, you take a complex concept and pare it down for us to take a look. Tom
