Endurance… Poem by Mousheera Shafik

Endurance…

Miserable all the times you are not around,
Breath is banishing, going underground,
fatigue because of too much fears,
drowning and sinking in too much tears,
inhalation is mortal, like thorns invading,
exhalation is fatal, like lavas incinerating,
every night sleeping is becoming death,
since it became absurd to take myself a breath,
how could you be this far, and you tell me you love me? ?
My chest stifled by these burdensome mountains,
how could you leave them above me? ?
You promised, you'd be there forever,
You promised, we'll always stick together,
You told me that I was your heaven sent gift,
Um telling you, um dying ever since you left,
We used to speak our minds the same, same way
Come, let me speak you my mind, don't go away,
Why did you stay behind, and didn't catch me falling?
Why then you didn't answer? , you refused to hear me calling
I stayed long days, and long, very long nights solacing myself,
I count the hour by seconds, and then I notice it was just a jiff,
But don't leave this to be a matter of endurance
As every human has limits of patience,
I don’t want it to be as a question of when…
Because I know my pride,
It'll make it a question of was and then…
Don’t relay on my fortitude, no please don't,
As concessions won't be in my lexicon, no it really won't.
