Envy Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Envy

Envy is a root, a seed that grows,
A venomous plant, a deadly foe,
It infiltrates, like thorns on a rose,
And with its presence, it starts to show,
For envy is the root of witchcraft.

In the shadows, it waits to strike,
A whisper in the ear, a little nudge,
It fills the heart with dark, black spite,
And from there, it begins to judge
Jealousy, its evil twin,
For envy is the root of witchcraft.

Together, they brew a wicked spell,
A toxic brew, a twisted sin,
That leads to where the devil dwells,
For envy is the root of witchcraft.

A breeding ground for all things grim,
With every thought, it gains more craft,
And soon, it takes control within,
It turns friends into bitter foes,
For envy is the root of witchcraft.

And family into strangers cold,
It poisons hearts, it taints the soul,
And leaves destruction, a story told,
For those who fall under its sway,
Are blinded by its deceitful lies,
For envy is the root of witchcraft.

They forget their own, their own way,
And seek to harm with all their might,
But beware, oh beware of envy,
For it is a dangerous game to play,
Once you succumb, it's hard to remedy,
For envy is the root of witchcraft.

The damages it leaves in its way,
So let us rid ourselves of envy,
And all its wicked, witching ways,
For only then, can we truly be,
At peace, with love, and in a better place.
