Fire Poem by Ojeikpo Elijah

Fire

The word is a two-edged sword
A refiner's fire.
I can ignite for eternity
It's a promised I can't be robbed.

Others may searching for silver and gold
Wrapped me with fire is all I want
Let me burned
Let me be drunk with fire
Like a flame out of the midst of fire.

Let me be made in the rain
Until my garment is soak in flame
Find your way to my altar
Licked up the water in the trench.

Find your way to my altar
I have laid an offering
Never abandon the woods,
The stones and the soil,
Also licked up the water in the trench.

Fire fall and burned up
On my altar continuously
The spirit, the soul and the body.
Consume me...
Like a crackling fire consuming stubble
Pass me through
The burning fiery furnace.

Let me be search for
Like a refined gold in the fire
The body is not necessary
Fill my vessel with unceasing fire.

Worry not for my flesh
Or for my thick hairs
Living only for you
Dying to myself.
