Envy Even In Old Age Poem by Shalom Freedman

Envy Even In Old Age

Rating: 5.0

Envy even in Old Age
Is a sin-
Is it their fault that others worked all their lives
And have good pensions now?
Is it their fault that others can travel
And break the boredom of having nothing much to do anymore?
Is it their fault that others
Do not have to worry about small petty expenses?
And about running out of money always?
Is it their fault
That others were not as stupid foolish innocent idiotic as me?

Old man that I am
Old fool as I am
At least be wise enough
Not to envy

The way you have made your bed
Is the way you are lying and will lie in it

However tough
Try to go through it with dignity
And the generosity of spirit
Which you sometimes do really have

Shocking really the words illustrate helplessness. Well done. Man should not live too long in this regard.
