And I realized one thing
And it came easy
And with pride and sorrow
I realized I was much
And not so much
And it came with pain
And prejudice
None of my expectations filled
But with substitutes unheralded
And some were great
And others shameful
And I felt something
Surprise, relief, grief
Maybe love, maybe hope
Lofty things for sure
Life had not panned out
As I'd quite expected
And that was probably the best part
Along with the aforementioned
