Escape From Reality Poem by Anji Carter

Escape From Reality

The star you see on high,
And strive to pluck it from the sky,
Is not so far away as it may seem.
It's not a dream.
When an angel, caught midstream in flight,
Catches with wisdom still, an inner sight,
Of what may seem to other eyes, not to be there.
Then only you and I will know, and care.

A singer brings you music for your soul.
Ambitious men make power seem a goal.
A poet brings you words to charm your ears,
And tells you all about her dreams, your fears.
An artist takes the music and the strength,
The words that give the sentences their length.
The dreams you've dreamt, and couldn't quite describe,
And on a canvas sets them for your eyes.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem is particularly personal to me, because as an artist as well as a poet, it takes me back to a time when I was ready to take on the world as long as it would allow me to continue to paint and to write.
