For e'li'see (Cherokee for Grandmother)
My ink travels upon the page
A permanent dictation of who I am
Who I was and who I will become.
Wishes and longings find voices here
Blasphemies and ghostly lingerings
Of temptations pursued - And completed
Ring loud enough to bleed tender eardrums.
Shadows of cast aside memories
Carry my soul to doubt its future
Clouding current judgments.
Apoplectic and hungry I storm through the past
Flipping through those ink-stained pages
A memory here - tear-stained thought there
Who was I? What am I today?
I search through miniscule inked passages
Desperately attempting to find
Something - Anything to return my peace of mind.
I scramble through the days
Divorcing the normalcy of my boring, passive,
Non-existential life - And sigh.
