Everlasting Poem by Becky Schulz

Everlasting

A wailing, a screaming, a ripping inside
It happens too often and I’m losing my grip
An infested stinking vortex of hate
Consumes the love I try to plant
A sorrow, a longing, it buries me deep
And chokes me in its foulness
I climb to the peak of a phantom mountain
And fall forever as my shame burns me
A cackle, a snarl, a wicked laugh
Keeps my hopes at bay in the lingering dark
