Evolution Poem by lucas altenberg

Evolution

We were walkers across the sky,
We were the seekers in the sand,
We were crawlers in the mud.

It was not after long that we found the knowledge of things.
We learned and we grew,
We fought and we won.
Than when the time came we took our rightful place,
We became gods.

But it didn’t take long before we noticed,
We noticed that one of us stood out,
That one of us was different,
Our minds were clear,
We saw all that was to be seen like a clear morning sky,
But the one was different,
His mind was clouded,
His thoughts were like a deep dark fog,
We all watched as it slowly consumed his mind,
We knew he dreamed even though we never dream,
He dreamed of fire and ashes,
He dreamed of controlling and oppressing,
He dreamed of ruling and conquering,

All of us stood by and did nothing as the fog of madness breached the ones mind,

Than we made a mistake,
We cast him out saying that he didn’t belong,
Didn’t have the right to be like us,
He left and for a long time we didn’t see him.

We grew as was our nature,
We built homes of power,
We grew arrogant,
We marvelled in our own excellence,
We were the mightiest of all beings,
And we forgot,

But the one we had forgotten was still there and with our rise his power too began to grow.

Even though we had forgotten him he hadn’t forgotten us. His mind had grown dark as obsidian,
He had become cold and calculated,
He had done what none of us had done before,
He had created a host,
The one who was different walked in the flesh,
Like we he too built a home of power,
But his home came forth out of fear,
Pain,
And blood.

Now we wait,
Wait for the final hour,
Wait for the one to come,
Wait for our journey to end,

Everything comes with a price,
Now is the time to pay.
