Evolution? Poem by Beth K. Lamont

Evolution?

Mother Nature was in a quandry.
She was overwhelmed with laundry
'cause this up-and-coming Species
Was so careless with it's feces!

This will Never do, She reasoned;
They Foul Their Nests in every Season!
Descent from the Trees to Stand Erect,
Shows Progress, However, I suspect!

That Developmental strides portend
they create Tribes, and not offend;
This stymies the course of Evolution!
What can I try for a Solution?

Mother Nature Winked her Eye,
And said: 'A Sphincter, I will try! '
It seems the utmost of Civility
Is controlling when to poop or pee.

She was wise to make this find,
'cause we then developed Humankind!
The good, the Bad, all tell the Story
We rose to heights of Awesome glory!

Ah, silken Robes and Royalty
Triumphal Galas and Pageantry
Brilliant Minds, Creative Powers,
But little time to smell the Flowers!

BUT! We're Still Offensive to Our Neighbors!
Always, the Rattling of Sabers!
Family, Tribe and Every Groupimg...
Pounding Chest...Symbolic Pooping!

Wielding Power Became the Flaw!
The Bomb of fearsome 'Shock and Awe! '
Starvation, War and Climate Change, or
Ignorance...A Constant Danger!

Use Up the Earth and All its LIFE!
Waste and Greed and Fear and Strife!
Millions Cry Out that War is Wrong!
'Can't We all Just Get along? '

Though the Sphincter Move was Brilliant,
Mother Knew Not One Scintilliant
Of the So-called Progress this Allowed;
Humans so arrogant, Vengeful, Proud!

Poor Mother Nature Now Realizes
That Her attempts to Civilize Us,
though well-intentioned, were all for Naught!
She's Screaming Now: 'WHAT HAVE I WROUGHT? '

Alas, WE Humans Have Failed The Test!
Mother Nature DID NOT KNOW BEST!
Though She Gave The Gift of Birth,
We've Near Destroyed Our Playpen Earth!

She Says: 'Goodness Knows, I tried my Best,
But, these Faulty Beings STILL FOUL THEIR NEST! '
The Sphincter helped Their Evolution, but
Now's the Time for REVOLUTION!

Concern for Earth and Human Lives
Is the only Way That We'll Survive!
But, Not Much Time for Problem-Solving!
Our ONLY HOPE! ....We're Still Evolving?

To Be continued.......
