Exactly As They Are Poem by A Michelle Smith

Exactly As They Are

Rating: 5.0

Covered precious stones they say I find my worth
-but those things merely come from the dirt
So how is there value in that
-and you expect me to see value where I am

Too many material things cloud the judgement of the mind
-easily lead astray by the things that we can buy
The better things come from the most high
-better than tools and trinkets that paper money aspires to buy

But I lost that piece of creativity inside of me
Trying to gain it back slowly
I've wondered a lot when I would return
-or would the path to nowhere be something that I yearned

Introspective perspective of who I want to see
-yet stuck with a retrospect perspective that doesn't suit me
So I sit outside and write tonight
-trying everything I can to reignite this light

For by the end of this I am worn out
-by a mind that steady tries to beat me down
The only sanction I find in a place far away from here
-yet steady trapped in a place I can hardly bear

Captive of my soul when heaven is the goal
-never a first choice when parts get chose
Well how about the worth in that?
These are my words as they are exact
