Exit Poem by Barry Middleton

Exit

love and life are fleeting
like melodies I used to know
harmonies retreating
to fade away in afterglow

the song of youth is brief
and soon becomes a memory
as age is filled with grief
and silence without remedy

the stage is vacant now
the theater emptied into night
I take my final bow
the exit is the only light

Exit
