Expired Relevance Poem by Pasquale DiMeola

Expired Relevance

Perhaps a lover of many years
Took an unforeseen path
Walking out of your life unannounced
Losing sight of a dearness
Held closer than anyone could have imagine

Perhaps a once glamorous Hollywood star
Pushed farther down the B movie list
To bereft boulevards shared by has beens
Who've lost the echoing familiarity of a name
To the oblivious sounds of mediocrity

Perhaps a crumbling kingdom
Which once sent trembles throughout the world
Faded into the sun baked taint of history
As an addendum to the power crazed
Leaders of an age swallowed by time

Perhaps, one day, you and I
Bastions of an expanding universe
A human race of trillions dropping DNA
On the totality of civilizations
Overwhelmed with bleached bones and meandering souls

Will reluctantly blend in with the rest of them.
