Extinct Poem by Kenneth Maswabi

Extinct

Distinguished breaths of life
Lie rotting
In a forest of death
Black logs lie silently
Among the corpses
Of all the dead species

Extinguished lights
Never shine in darkness
Forever swallowed
By the pit of extinction
Mutilated souls
Amongst the growing list
Of all the lost tribes
Of the animal kingdom

Extinction
The enemy within
Feeding on broken spirits
Ghosts of the living dead
Rhinoceros among them
Roaming the earth
In search of justice
