Eyes Of Ice, Eyes Of Fire Poem by Cherie Mort

Eyes Of Ice, Eyes Of Fire

You don't know my eyes
What they see
What they've seen
A million disasters just waiting to happen

Eyes like liquid fire
And desire are enraptured
Gazing into eyes of ice

I close my eyes; you make me cry
You try to brush away my tears but only worsen my pain
You seem sad, your embers dimly glowing
Only brightened by your lava tears

You turn away, ashamed to be the one who hurts me
Just as I am ashamed of hurting you
I look back, only to have my gaze blinded by a fresh wave of water
My eyes feel like they're melting in your sight

I look up at the heavens, trying to hold back my tears, but they pool around my feet anyways
Slowly the pool crawls over to you, a million watery hands reaching out for you
You try to keep them away, evaporating as many as you can
But they still overcome you and burn your hands

I back away in horror, afraid to come closer
You back away as well, afraid that we'll hurt each other

I whisper ''I'm sorry''
You whisper ''I know''

We stand apart until an ache fills our essences
Until the yawning void feels like it's tearing us apart
We run towards each other and embrace each other tightly, refusing to let go

The pain is unimaginable; I am burned by our embrace, and you are nearly extinguished
But still, we refuse to let go

We join our hands together and touch our foreheads to each other

Only then do we feel a change
A numbness grows as we are stretched, contorted, molded into one
We intertwine like aspen trees, growing forth from one common root
We bend and twist around into a bulbous hoop
In, around, through, morphed into one small shape
Pulsing in the earth, covered in blue and red branches
We have become one heart, one essence

We shall not part again
