Fairy Tale Love Poem by Myrtle Thomas

Fairy Tale Love

Fairy Tale Love

In hazel pools
golden specks
flicker and spark
and lies of love
are discovered
even beguiled in mind
attention comforts for a season
as the cold light of reality reveals
those dark intentions of theft

for ill gotten gain of a heart
breaks as shattered glass
and tears are crystal chandeliers
never enlightened nor brilliant
seem rusty and tainted
as an eclipsed moon

aglow in the spring
as flowers of the future
bloomed and died in yesterday's dream
when an outstretched hand
is only given for a moment in time

Fall was the downfall
of leafy colored dreams
dried fairy tales swept away
in winter winds dark rage

left only distilled tears
bottled and forgotten
set aside in a bitter vase
even yet the truth is like
a burning boil salved only in deceit
the label half torn off.
