Burnt Offerings Poem by Myrtle Thomas

Burnt Offerings

Rating: 2.6

Burnt Offerings

hot embers stepped on by barefoot
scorch a tender heart
easily attracted frailty
oh the fires too hot!
the door left open

exposed a tender heart
deceived thermometer reading
pulses racing high

two bodies burning
animal instincts frenzy
no thought of a blister
til the hot coal is dropped

one searching for lasting warmth
the other just for one cold night
no thought of a new scar
stretch and enjoy the heat
