Fallen Poem by R B Seals

Fallen

Apathy became a nation's norm—
Moved by loyalty, denial served well;
Bringing down populations all.

Ideology: Democracy—that once made
A country great... its leadership lessened,
Corrupted as commentary would recall.

From God's and world's watchful eye,
A republic no longer envied, no longer
Trusted, no longer standing tall.

Such the complexity of pride defaming
Tradition of Duty, Honor, Country;
The notion of Right; and the Rule of Law.

Arrogance paramount; priority: Self,
Political gains o'er need of people as
Imperial power becomes outlaw.

An electorate spurred on, mostly myopic;
A republic denigrated; revered concepts
Becoming broken, dissolved in free fall.

So, it came to this: societies victimized,
Adults ‘n children as unwitting players—
Witnesses passive succumb in downfall.

Described in critical prose, History's
Rendition of sad song: of people's
Ambivalence, of failure to disenthrall.
