The first thing you forget about somebody
is their face
It becomes blurry and fades into
murk. Where did the eyes meet? What color was their nose?
How exactly did their lips curve when they laughed like
a rose? Then there goes their voice,
memorable as it once was
it recedes with a slither
going flat
white noise
Don't leave me apart
in the waters
put me back together again.
a murder of black birds- (seven) - paddle by-
whispering of the person you used to be
Some memories
struggle harder the more you pull
Some straight-up fade
evaporating like white mist
Some memories have vanished without a trace
without meeting your face
not this one
you just aren't willing to pull it back up. Why
/am I still me? without my past?
they say our sense of selves
are built solely on our memories and our memories solely but
pull me apart piece by piece
bone by bone
flesh by flesh
now
replace them
and put them all back together again
