Fashion Show Poem by Amitava Sur

Fashion Show

Rating: 5.0

I was in a fashion show in one evening
People with serious face gathered and sat near the ramp
With thousand watts of light and sound
The show starts on –
Models were approaching - putting gorgeous dresses on
Walking in with shakes and jerks
In cat walk on their heels.
People were whistling with raising hands with joy.

But when I looked seriously, I found something else
People were not praising the dress
But the curves and bounce of models.
With rhythmic sound and glowing lights -
They were cheering the waving dames
Their swinging body with their curves and cleavages-
Were catapulting the addressees.

People were with wide eyes without any blink
Their mouth were wide open – their chin touching the chest.

I just could not get into what show was it
Is it a fashion show or winking of body and flesh.
As a stupid I left the show in between
Slowly leaving behind by Scratching my own head.

A very good poem with the strongest hints at how women were made cheap and exploited by those who got richer and richer.

Amitava, you are one in a million, you present serious situations without blinking, yet show us the humor behind each situation. I can just see you walking away scratching your head. Excellent write. Keep them coming. RoseAnn

Nicely written! Does this poem come from experience?
