Fast Track Ride Poem by Kathryn Brookins

Fast Track Ride

Sweat is running down my arms and chest.
I can barely breath or even think of rest.
My mind is wandering around like its lost,
is the reality of love gone horrible, is this the cost?
Tears were shed so much I am raw..
from the inside to the out, I have a tear stained bra.
Sweat and tears ran down my cheeks and fell where they would.
I did not care to remove them from me, I don't see how I could.
I thought so often that you got me, that you understood,
but you were nothing more or different from my girls in the hood.
I looked up to you and loved you and wanted to be like you,
how could I still feel that way, after all you have done, and still do?
I will dry up these emotions and let this all slide,
because here is where I get off of your fast track ride.

Don't make it where a brick has to hit you in the head before you see the truth before your eyes. Except it, embrace it, then 'do' something about it.
